DUPLICATION VS. REPLICATION
Q & A
Q -
What is the difference between duplication and replication?
A - “Duplication” is a completely different process than replication, in that duplication “burns” the information onto a pre-made DVD-R or CD-R.. However, with “replication” we create what is called a “stamper”. From the “stamper”, we then “stamp out” the disc copies, using plastics, metals, and bonding agents.
Advantages of Duplication:
- Faster turn times (2-3 day standard)
- Most cost effective process for orders 500 pieces or less
- Can be done for quantities of as few as 1 disc
- Can be burned with the masters information at any time
- Professional looking
Disadvantages of Duplication:
- Possible compatibility issues with older DVD/CD players
- Shorter life span
- Less cost effective for larger orders (1000+)
Advantages of Replication:
- More cost effective on larger runs (500+)
- Higher quality discs with a longer life span
- No compatibility issues
- Professional looking
- Discs offered in different shapes (can be cut)
Disadvantages of Replication:
- Longer turn time (10-12 days standard)
- Not available for short runs (<500)
